Jacqueline Hugtenburg accepted her appointment as professor by special appointment at the University of Curaçao (UoC) on April 19, 2023.
For the next three years she will devote herself to this position, in the chair of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. 
Hugtenburg is a pharmacist and associate professor at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam. Since 2019, she has been contributing to scientific research in Curaçao, in collaboration with the UoC and the Caribbean Prevention Center, among others.
"If we want our ideas for prevention and early detection of disease to reach the people of the islands' neighborhoods and villages, we as researchers and health care providers need to listen to and work with them", emphasized Hugtenburg in her inaugural lecture.
