What are non-communicable diseases (NCDs)?
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are long‑lasting illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and lung problems. NCDs often arise from genetics, environmental and lifestyle factors. NCDs are also the leading cause of death worldwide, causing a heavy burden on families, health systems, and national economies.
Prevention of NCDs is possible through healthier diets, physical activity and avoiding tobacco and harmful alcohol use. Prevention of NCD’s reduces premature death and improves quality of life. Investing in prevention strengthens communities and supports sustainable development. Countries that invest in prevention build stronger and healthier communities.
Fundashon Prevenshon is a leading organization in prevention in Curaçao, with more than 18 years of experience serving the community. We make screening accessible to all citizens by offering free transportation to our screening center in Otrobanda and by working with government partners to include screening in the social healthcare package.
NCD screening and lifestyle intervention
NCDs screening
At Fundashon Prevenshon, screening is one of our core areas of expertise. Together with lifestyle‑medicine professionals, general practitioners, and scientists, we have developed a new program that gives citizens of Curaçao a complete overview of their risk of developing a noncommunicable disease (NCD).
The screening includes physical measurements and a detailed questionnaire about daily habits. The physical measurements include:
- Glucose and cholesterol levels
- Waist circumference, weight, and height
- Blood pressure and heart rate
The questionnaire covers diet, physical activity, smoking, alcohol use, sleep, and stress. One of our trained professionals will guide you through the questions to ensure everything is clear.
After the measurements and questionnaire, you will meet with our lifestyle physician for an intake interview. During this conversation, the physician reviews your results and provides practical advice on how to take control of your health and lower your risk of developing an NCD.
After participating in the screening we evaluate your enrollment in the lifestyle intervention program
The intake interview may lead to enrollment in our lifestyle intervention program. This one‑year program is designed to give you guidance and structure to help improve your daily habits. If you would like more information about this program, you can speak with any of our professionals. Please contact us on our free phone lines at 462‑3380 or 0800‑1811 and ask about Vita.
Did you go through our Screening program? We would love to hear your feedback.
